Is this a Full Unit or Mini Unit? South America is a Full Unit. Our Full Units are 20 lessons long and designed to take 4-6 weeks to complete. The Student Notebooks from Early Reader and up have 5 pages per day and are designed to cover all your subjects other than math. Mini Units are often shorter in length or in output and while they do have crossover into multiple subjects, they are more focused and intentional on the topic of the unit. They also tend to be more hands-on with less written output. Some families alternate Full Units with Mini Units while others do them alongside one another.
What is this unit about? South America is one of the last units in our connecting continents series (yes, we have an Antarctica unit, but as there are not individual countries, cultures, nor many animals, it is very different from our other ones.)
With a day in the life, stunning art, tons of amazing animals, and 10 different countries to explore, this unit will open your eyes to cultures, languages, and diverse customs around the world.
Our writing project for this unit is to write an article/news report. Students will be learning about reliable sources, how to conduct an interview, editing and newspaper layout, and more. We also included a Spanish feature in our notebooking pages each day for a foreign language component (vetted by a native Spanish speaker). Come join us to read some incredible missionary stories, what life is like, animals, geography, and much more as we explore this amazing continent together.

What should I buy? You will need to purchase a physical workbook for each child as well as a Teacher's Guide for yourself. The Teacher's Guides contain all the actual teaching, they are not just for answers, so they are critical to your lessons. Printed books are printed on 32lb. paper and are shipped to you coil bound.
How long are units designed to last? Each unit is designed to be 4-6 weeks. Our main units and most of our mini units include 20 lessons and can be done as a 4-day school week (lasting 5 weeks) or a 5-day school week (lasting 4 weeks) to offer flexibility. You're in control! Set a schedule that works best for your family and your pace will dictate how quickly you complete any given unit.
Check out the Resources! Most of our units have a free resource page on our free app. These have video links for each lesson, a way to track what you have done, as well as suggested reading lists, PDF downloads, and more! Click on the button a little further down to see what we have for this unit.
