Is this a Full Unit or Mini Unit? US Government is a Mini Unit. Our Mini Units are often shorter in length or in output and while they do have crossover into multiple subjects, they are more focused and intentional on the topic of the unit. They also tend to be more hands-on with less written output. In contrast, Full Units are 20 lessons long and designed to take 4-6 weeks to complete. The Student Notebooks from Early Reader and up have 5 pages per day and are designed to cover all your subjects other than math. Some families alternate Full Units with Mini Units while others do them alongside one another.
What is this unit about? This rich mini unit teaches about both the history of politics and how the government is set up, as well as how voting works. As a mini unit, it only has 2 student pages per day and focuses on an oral presentation to show what you know. Pre-reader students will make a mini book to present at the end of the unit, 6-10 year olds are creating their own country and government structure, and older students are choosing a debate topic. Students will make timelines, learn about the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, and Amendments. Weekly narration for those of you who need to test or to use as review, weekly vocabulary words, daily notebooking pages, a daily prayer to start each day... this unit isn't just beautiful, it is a little treasure! With landmarks, history, geography, civics, and so much more, you definitely want to add this to your list!

What should I buy? You will need to purchase a physical workbook for each child as well as a Teacher's Guide for yourself. The Teacher's Guides contain all the actual teaching, they are not just for answers, so they are critical to your lessons. Printed books are printed on 32lb. paper and are shipped to you coil bound.
How long is it designed to last? This unit is designed to last 4-6 weeks depending on how many lessons you do per day. You're in control! Set a schedule that works best for your family and your pace will dictate how quickly you complete any given unit.
Check out the Resources! Most of our units have a free resource page on our free app. These have video links for each lesson, a way to track what you have done, as well as suggested reading lists, PDF downloads, and more! Click on the button a little further down to see what we have for this unit.
