Is this a Full Unit or Mini Unit? Thanksgiving is a Mini Unit. Our Mini Units are often shorter in length or in output and while they do have crossover into multiple subjects, they are more focused and intentional on the topic of the unit. They also tend to be more hands-on with less written output. In contrast, Full Units are 20 lessons long and designed to take 4-6 weeks to complete. The Student Notebooks from Early Reader and up have 5 pages per day and are designed to cover all your subjects other than math. Some families alternate Full Units with Mini Units while others do them alongside one another.
What is this unit about? Our Thanksgiving mini unit is full of history, art, beauty, gratitude, service, and prayer. In this one-week unit, you will be discovering the incredible history of this special holiday, the hurt and controversy that surrounds it, the incredible redeeming power of our loving God—Creator of all—and having a lot of fun too! Over the course of 4 lessons, you will learn how to bake pies and make your own pie crust, how cranberries are harvested and grown, and how to make your own cranberry sauce, while also making daily crafts, getting ready for the holiday, and learning what the Bible says about thankfulness and what it does to your brain!
With rich literature connections, poetry, picture studies, copywork, communion, journaling, and more, the Thanksgiving unit is designed to be used for the whole family (whether you are homeschoolers or not), as a way to connect as a family and appreciate what Thanksgiving is all about. It is designed to be done in 4 days. We pray that you walk away from this unit full—not of food but, rather, of an awareness of the goodness of God. May He open your eyes to His faithfulness, His kindness, His gentleness, and His incredible provision in your life.
What should I buy? You will need to purchase a physical workbook for each child as well as a Teacher's Guide for yourself. The Teacher's Guides contain all the actual teaching, they are not just for answers, so they are critical to your lessons. For any purchase that includes the printed Teacher's Guide, you will also receive the digital Thanksgiving MP3 Teacher's Guide for free! The files will be added automatically to your downloads in your account after you have completed your order. Printed books are printed on 32lb. paper and are shipped to you coil bound.
How long is it designed to last? This unit is designed to last 1-2 weeks depending on how many lessons you do per day. You're in control! Set a schedule that works best for your family and your pace will dictate how quickly you complete any given unit.
Check out the Resources! Most of our units have a free resource page on our free app. These have video links for each lesson, a way to track what you have done, as well as suggested reading lists, PDF downloads, and more! Click on the button a little further down to see what we have for this unit.
