Is this a Full Unit or Mini Unit? Energy is a Full Unit. Our Full Units are 20 lessons long and designed to take 4-6 weeks to complete. The Student Notebooks from Early Reader and up have 5 pages per day and are designed to cover all your subjects other than math. Mini Units are often shorter in length or in output and while they do have crossover into multiple subjects, they are more focused and intentional on the topic of the unit. They also tend to be more hands-on with less written output. Some families alternate Full Units with Mini Units while others do them alongside one another.

What is this unit about? We are excited to launch our first full physics unit—perfect for all ages but meeting a specific need for our high school community. This unit is a bit different than our other ones in that we divided it into two sections. The first section is more physics heavy, leaning into the forms of energy and the science behind them (ie. what is nuclear energy and how does it work?). The second half of the unit goes through the ways that we harness and use energy and leans heavier into social studies with regular hot button topics and controversies introduced.

One of the key themes throughout this unit is: Is any energy truly sustainable? Is any energy truly green? If you have used Gather 'Round in the past, you'll know that we do our best to try to avoid leading you to an inevitable conclusion, but we do paint the full picture and leave room for you to lead a discussion in your homes.

This topic is key for our world today and integral for our students to understand—giving context for even larger issues such as the dangers of being reliant on another country and why leaders are investing so much in the future of energy. Your whole family is going to learn something in this unit—which because of its unique design, can be split up and done at separate times throughout the year so you don't get "energied out". In your student books, we're taking advantage of the controversial nature of energy and teaching about the art of persuasion—ending with students trying to persuade the whole family of their viewpoint. With fun hands-on activities, optional experiments, and deep biblical connections . . . you don't want to miss this one!

Try a free lesson on us below—it's the best possible way to see how this works and place your kids in the right levels.

Check out the Scope and Sequence and Table of Contents on our free app (accessible on a computer or phone).

Don't miss our add on for this unit! Energy Seatwork Books are available in DIGITAL or PRINT or check out our Seatwork sample below, a complete writing mechanics course with daily copywork, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.

What should I buy? You can purchase a leveled bundle with one student notebook of your choice and the Teacher's Guide, or the full family bundle that includes all levels with the Teacher's Guide. If you have more than one child you are buying for, it is more economical to get the full bundle to re-use in the future with your kids at older levels. All digital bundles come as an instant download in PDF format for you to print at home.

How long are units designed to last? Each unit is designed to be 4-6 weeks. Our main units and most of our mini units include 20 lessons and can be done as a 4-day school week (lasting 5 weeks) or a 5-day school week (lasting 4 weeks) to offer flexibility. You're in control! Set a schedule that works best for your family and your pace will dictate how quickly you complete any given unit.

Check out the Resources! Most of our units have a free resource page on our free app. These have video links for each lesson, a way to track what you have done, as well as suggested reading lists, PDF downloads, and more!
