Our Mini Units are often shorter in length or in output and while they do have crossover into multiple subjects, they are more focused and intentional on the topic of the unit. They also tend to be more hands-on with less written output. In contrast, Full Units are 20 lessons long and designed to take 4-6 weeks to complete. The Student Notebooks from Early Reader and up have 5 pages per day and are designed to cover all your subjects other than math. Some families alternate Full Units with Mini Units while others do them alongside one another.
What is this unit about? We're so excited about our brand new Fourth of July unit! This unit can be a fun detour for the summer months or even serve as a little history boost any time of the year. With just two days of lessons, this mini unit gives you a chance to sneak in some meaningful learning before celebrating the holiday. You will study the creation of the 13 colonies, a tea party with big consequences, separation from England, and the formation of the country we now know as the United States of America! Then, we focus on the flag, national anthem, and of course, food! Student packs are divided into three levels:
• Level 1 is for pre-reader and early reader with little to no writing and more hands-on or cut and paste activities.
• Level 2 is designed for early to upper elementary to Middle School with a bit of writing without being too heavy.
• Level 3 is for teens and even adults with more written responses and deeper thinking.
No summer celebration is complete without some traditional recipes like ribs and chili-cheese dogs. Each level will walk through planning a special gathering and menu to celebrate the Fourth of July. This short mini unit packs a punch as we learn about the history of the holiday, the excitement that surrounds it today, and much more!
