Is this a Full Unit or Mini Unit? National Parks is a Full Unit. Our Full Units are 20 lessons long and designed to take 4-6 weeks to complete. The Student Notebooks from Early Reader and up have 5 pages per day and are designed to cover all your subjects other than math. Mini Units are often shorter in length or in output and while they do have crossover into multiple subjects, they are more focused and intentional on the topic of the unit. They also tend to be more hands-on with less written output. Some families alternate Full Units with Mini Units while others do them alongside one another.
What is this unit about? Join us for our very first story-based unit, where you will be joining the Maydens on a road trip from sea to shining sea as we explore some of the most incredible national parks of North America. The perfect unit to lead up to camping, or give you a little extra indoor fun in the long, cold winter, kids of all ages are going to love this one. Student books have a daily survival page focusing on skills such as starting fires, identifying plants, following maps, and more that go along with our novel study, designed to be done at the same time (though it doesn't have to be)! There is also a daily focus on character with a devotional, word study, and more. Think of it as a novel with sneaky learning in it! With deep dives into history, ecology, science, geography, and art, we have a rich month of discovery awaiting us!
For the writing project, younger students will write a report about their favorite park while middle schoolers and higher will be learning about essays! These pages are once a week, if you find you want daily instruction, we made writing tracks to go along with these with daily instruction, examples, and step-by-step breakdown to walk you through the process! What should I buy? This unit comes in both print and digital formats. Simply choose the format that works for you: printed and shipped to you, or digital, where you print on your own at home!
PRINT You will need to purchase a physical workbook for each child as well as a Teacher's Guide for yourself. The Teacher's Guides contain all the actual teaching, they are not just for answers, so they are critical to your lessons.
How long are units designed to last? Each unit is designed to be 4-6 weeks. Our main units and most of our mini units include 20 lessons and can be done as a 4-day school week (lasting 5 weeks) or a 5-day school week (lasting 4 weeks) to offer flexibility. You're in control! Set a schedule that works best for your family and your pace will dictate how quickly you complete any given unit.
