Printer Troubleshooting
Our digital products are designed for use with a personal home printer.
Most of our digital customers print from home with no problems, but we receive questions now and then. We are limited in our troubleshooting abilities because each home computer and printer is different, and we are not able to provide extensive tech support. We have compiled a few steps that resolve most issues.
Printing from a Home Computer
If you are experiencing printing issues, download the free version of Adobe PDF Reader. Viewing and printing from Adobe resolves many issues, including:
- Strange characters appearing in place of words
- Images printing with a black background
- Error messages when sending the print job
After loading the file in Adobe, open print options, select Advanced Settings, then enable Print as Image. This can eliminate communication errors between your computer and printer by telling the printer to print exactly what appears on screen.
Also check for updates to your computer, software, and printer to keep things running smoothly.
Outside Print Companies
We sometimes receive questions about why a PDF is not in a format another printing company requires. Our priority is formatting for home printing, and there is nothing wrong with our files. We use a professional print press and print hundreds of notebooks each month without issue.
Other printing companies may use different programs and equipment, which can affect their ability to print our product.
Gather 'Round digital files are password-protected to prevent editing. Some commercial printing companies may be unable or unwilling to print password-protected files. For most companies, this is not an issue. If you choose to buy digital and use another company for printing, we are not able to provide support for that company's systems.
Printing from a Phone or Tablet
If you do not have a home computer, download the app associated with your printer (for example, Epson iPrint for Epson printers). Once connected, you can print directly through the app. If you are on an iPhone or iPad, Apple issues may supersede this suggestion (see below).
Printing Issues with iOS
With recent iOS updates, some users report difficulty printing on Apple devices. This issue is not related to our files. Apple is aware of the issue and working on corrections.
In the meantime, we recommend printing from a computer using Adobe, or letting us print your books for you. Contact us if you are struggling to get your books printed. We can provide a coupon code to make the jump to print a bit easier.
