Let’s journey through the land of Yoopers, Trolls, tulips, and tannins! The next stop on the Fifty States tour takes us to Michigan, a place made up of mitten-shaped landmasses and lots of Great Lakes. Home to an abundance of tart cherries, the birthplace of cornflakes, and Motor City itself, the Wolverine State gives us a peek into key periods in American history, including the Industrial Revolution, the invention of the Model T, and the creation of Motown tunes. We will stop by Mackinac Island and Sleeping Bear Dunes, learn about the peculiar Petoskey stone and the American robin, and peek at why Michiganders love to snack on a pasty. Our spotlight shines on car-creator Henry Ford, whose affordable rides changed automobiles forever for the average American. We will also study how Michigan used assembly lines, mineral deposits, and modern engineering to put the state on the map as a place beloved by both families and businesses. Student Book activities include mapping, lesson summaries, a Monet art study, a peek at the Erie Canal, a look at light pollution, a study of the inner workings of an engine, music appreciation, and an explanation of how rubber is made.

The unit is designed to cover all your subjects (math available separately).
